Grade Level: First Objective: By the end of the day, students will understand the warming effect the sun has on land, air and water by doing an experiment using these elements. Students will also be able to observe measurable changes in surrounding land, air, and water using past and present target vocabulary. Assessment: Students will be assessed through group discussion, and written observations using target vocabulary. Target Vocabulary: cold, cool, warm, hot, shadow, frozen, condensation. Materials: clear plastic cups, permanent markers, use of a freezer, ice, thermometer, (optional). Introduction: Students will activate prior knowledge about the sun, weather, temperature, and vocabulary. Input: Guided Practice: Student Practice: Assessment: 1. I will guide three short class discussions by asking questions about the student’s observations: What do you think warmed the objects outside? Does the sun warm objects, or cool objects? What different types of things does the sun warm? What things does the sun help? What if it is sunny all day long? 2. Students will draw a picture from their observations taken over the course of the day. Closure:
